Waterproofing for cold storages and ice plants
In a cold storage the enemy is not rain. It is the vapour in the warm air outside, condensing the moment it touches a cold surface.

What goes wrong on cold storages
Warm damp air is always trying to move towards cold, and when it reaches the cold face inside a panel it condenses. That water has nowhere to go: it soaks the insulation, which stops insulating, so the plant works harder, the running cost climbs and the structure behind it stays permanently wet. Because none of this is visible from inside the chamber, the usual first sign is an electricity bill that has crept up, or panels that have started to sweat. A roof leak on top of that is simply the same problem arriving faster.
What you get that a householder does not need
- Roof, floor, joints and door surrounds assessed together, not as separate jobs.
- A specification that addresses vapour, not only liquid water.
- Chamber-by-chamber phasing so the plant does not come down all at once.
- Work timed to your shutdown window, including nights.
- The same treatment extended to attached godowns and ice plants where they share a roof.
Working around your building
The treatment here has to keep water out and keep vapour from moving in, which is a different specification from a house terrace. We look at the roof, the floor, the panel joints and the door surrounds together, because treating one and not the others just moves the condensation somewhere else. Work is planned around your load and your shutdown window, chamber by chamber where the plant cannot come down all at once.
