In a cold storage, moisture is a bigger enemy than rain. Warm outside air meets a cold surface, condenses, and quietly soaks the insulation and the structure. Waterproofing here is about keeping water out and keeping vapour from moving in.

What causes it
The same wet patch can come from different places, and each one needs a different fix. This is what we look for on site.

Vapour finding a way in
Any unsealed joint lets warm, humid air reach the cold surface, where it condenses and stays.

Roof leakage above the cold room
Water entering from the roof runs along the deck and drops into the insulation, where it does not dry.

Floor slab moisture
Moisture rising through the floor slab collects under the insulation and reduces its performance.

Panel joints and fixings
Screws, hangers and panel joints are small openings, but there are hundreds of them.
Our cold storage process
Step by step, in this order. Nothing is skipped to finish a day early.
- 01
Survey with the plant team
We look at the roof, the floor and the joint details along with your maintenance team, and plan the work around your shutdown window.
- 02
Stop the water entry
Roof cracks, joints and fixings above the cold area are treated first, so nothing new is coming in.
- 03
Seal the joints
Panel joints, fixings and penetrations are sealed to cut off the path for vapour.
- 04
Treat floor and walls
Slab and wall surfaces are treated with suitable coatings for the temperature and the usage of the room.
- 05
Handover with a check
The area is checked after the room comes back to temperature, so any remaining condensation point is caught early.
