The spans are long, so the roof moves a great deal between a hot afternoon and a cool night, and every joint and fixing is a way in. In a cold storage there is a second problem that has nothing to do with rain: warm damp air outside meets the cold face inside, condenses there, and quietly soaks the insulation until the plant is working harder and the bill has crept up. Neither shows as a stain on a ceiling. Both show as damaged stock.
What the work involves
We survey the shed loaded, because that is how you will be using it. The roof is treated bay by bay so only part of the building is out of use at a time, and each bay is closed and watertight before the next is opened, with no large area left exposed to a sudden shower. For cold rooms we look at the roof, the panel joints, the floor and the door surrounds together, since treating one and not the others just moves the condensation somewhere else. Work is timed to your shutdown window, including nights where the plant cannot come down in the day.
Worth knowing before you call
- Book ahead of the storage season. Coatings need dry weather and curing time, so a roof started in July cannot be finished properly.
- The shed does not have to be emptied; we phase around the stock and tell you which bay is affected on which day.
- For cold rooms the specification addresses vapour, not just liquid water, which is a different treatment from a house terrace.
- Forty minutes from our base, so night work and staged returns are practical here.
