Wall paint damage and peeling repair
Paint does not fail on its own. It blisters, flakes and comes off in sheets because there is water behind it pushing outwards. Painting over it again is the most expensive way to find that out. We find where the water is coming from, stop it, let the wall dry, and only then make the surface good.

You probably need this if…
- Paint bubbling, or lifting off in sheets when you touch it
- A chalky powder that comes off on your hand
- The same patch coming back in the same place after every repaint
- A white crystal bloom pushing through or under the paint
What causes it
The same wet patch can come from different places, and each one needs a different fix. This is what we look for on site.
- 01
Water behind the wall
The paint is the last layer to fail, not the first. Something above, beside or below the wall is letting water in, and the film is simply where it finally shows.
- 02
Painted while it was still damp
Moisture sealed under a film has nowhere to go. It gathers, lifts the paint off the putty, and the wall blisters within a season.
- 03
Putty over a wet wall
Wall putty is not waterproof. Put on damp plaster it softens, loses grip, and takes the paint with it when it goes.
- 04
Salt coming out of the plaster
Water moving through masonry carries salt with it. As it dries at the surface the salt crystallises and pushes the paint film off from behind.
- 05
The wrong paint outside
An interior emulsion on an outside wall chalks in the first summer, and once it chalks it stops holding the wall and starts letting water into it.
Our paint damage process
Step by step, in this order. Nothing is skipped to finish a day early.
- 01
Find the source
We read the pattern first — how high the damage goes, when it worsens, whether it carries salt — and check the terrace, the joint, the pipe or the plinth that it points to.
- 02
Stop the water
The source is treated as its own job. Painting before this is done is money spent on a surface that is going to fail again.
- 03
Scrape back to sound material
All loose paint and putty is taken off, and plaster that sounds hollow is hacked away until what is left is firmly stuck.
- 04
Let the wall dry
This takes days, sometimes weeks, and it cannot be hurried. Anyone who skips it is selling you the same repair again next year.
- 05
Re-plaster and prime
A polymer-modified plaster brings the surface back level, and a damp-blocking primer goes on once it has cured.
- 06
Two coats of finish
Two coats in a shade matched to the rest of the wall, so the repair does not read as a patch across the room.
What is included
- A moisture check across the affected wall, not just the visible patch
- Scraping, hacking off hollow plaster and removal of the debris
- Polymer-modified re-plastering and a damp-blocking primer
- Two finish coats matched as closely as we can to the existing shade
- Covering and protection of floors and furniture while we work
